Quiet Subversions: Paintings by Arthur Parker is a fascinating retrospective which showcases the oeuvre of self-taught Sydney artist, Arthur Parker. Parker began his career as a house painter, went on to contractual graffiti-buffing work for the council, then, after an epiphany, turned his focus to the visual arts. The exhibition features select documentation of Parker’s early site-specific paintings, and recent developments of his current passion: still life painting.

Visit Arthur’s website to view his incredible oeuvre and read his biography:

Arthur Parker is another fictional artist whose biography, website and art work I fabricated, or documented on Sydney streets, as in the case of “his” Illicit Abstracts. The project began as an imaginative interpretation of the stories behind the mis-matched colour patches and graffiti buffering on walls in the city.
